Poppe's restaurant is situated in a former smithy. In 1866, these premises were sold to the Poppe family.
Dirk Poppe came to Zwolle in 1725 and established a smithy he named "De gekroonde Hoefijzers" (The crowned horseshoes).
Since May 1979, the restaurant is run by its present owners, the Diks family, under the name Restaurant v/h hoefsmederij Poppe.
